Omni Logistics’ July 2025 Market Insights reports a domestic freight market that’s still fairly muted but with growing inventory filling up warehouses. Fuel costs are still well below their 2023 peaks.
Domestically, freight shipments across all modes fell 4% year-over-year. Truckload rates have increased slightly with seasonal trends and LTL rates remain elevated despite consistently lower tonnage in networks.
Globally, ocean rates spiked in late May but have tumbled in the subsequent weeks. Air freight remains consistent but the rapid growth seen in 2024 has somewhat moderated with fewer small packages out of China.
All told, muted demand, cautious capacity additions, and policy uncertainty continue to temper hopes for a full-blown “freight recovery.
